Managing a corporation requires skills combined with an in-depth understanding of various concepts of management. Along with other advantages, the appeal of receiving a handsome salary encourages many of us to organize for MBA entries. One such MBA entry that paves the way for the acquisition of higher education in management is the Common Admission Test.
A computer-based examination for admission into a graduate management program is the Common Admission Test. The test consists of three sections: VARC, Data Analysis, and Logical Reasoning (DILR), and Quantitative Capacity (Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension) (QA). Over a duration of three hours, the exam is taken online, with one hour per section.
The Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) began this assessment and used the test to select students for their business administration programs (MBA or PGDM). Every year the test is performed by one among the IIMs supported a rotation policy.
To enroll students for the MBA/ PGDM programs, the premier Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) use CAT ratings. 20 items deliver education programs for undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, and executive management.
The Common Admission Test is the Indian Institute of Management’s national-level management entrance exam for admission to 20 IIMs and 100+ B-schools across India. IIMs offer access to almost 12000 applicants in several management programs supported by CAT ratings. Every year about 2 lakh aspirants appear for the exam meaning to be admitted to top B-schools. MDI (Gurgaon), IITs, SP Jain (Mumbai), IMT (Ghaziabad), FMS (Delhi), KJ Somaiya Institute of Management Studies (Mumbai), Great Lakes Institute of Management (Chennai), Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneshwar, to name a few are top B-schools other than IIMs that accept CAT scores.
Eligibility:
The candidate must satisfy the requirements stated below:
1. Keep a bachelor’s degree with no less than 50 percent or equivalent CGPA (45 percent for the classification of Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Disabled Persons (PWD)/Differently Able (DA)).
2. The degree should be awarded to any university consolidated by an act of a central or state legislative authority in India or to any other educational institution established by an act of Parliament or declared to be a university by Section 3 of the 1956 UGC Act or to have an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India.
3. Competitors who appear for the final year of the bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification exam and individuals who have completed prerequisites for the degree and are awaiting results can also apply. If chosen, such applicants will be permitted to temporarily enter the program only if they present a most recent certificate by 30 June 2020 from the principal/registrar of their college/institute (issued by 30 June 2020 at the latest) stating that the competitor has completed each of the prerequisites for obtaining four or three years of college education/identical capacity on the database.
The Pattern of Exam:
Like virtually all large-scale tests, the Common Admission Test uses several test formats or variants. There are also two kinds of scores involved: a raw and a scaled score.
For each segment, the raw score is determined based on the number of questions that one has answered correctly, incorrectly, or did not attempt. For each correct answer, candidates are given +3 points, and for each incorrect answer, -1 point. For questions that are not answered, no points are given. Via a method called equating, the raw scores are then adapted.
To ensure a suitable interpretation of the scores, equated raw scores are then put on a standard scale or metric. Scaling is called this method.
The adjustment in the total number of questions and number of questions per section in cat merely occurs, with 100 questions integrating each section from a wider perspective. The very first section of the Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC) consists of 34 questions, further bifurcating 24 questions of reading comprehension and 10 questions of verbal ability, then the next section consists of 32 questions of data analysis and logical reasoning (DILR) and the last section consists of 34 questions of quantitative ability (QA), making it 100 questions.
The CAT is worked out in two sessions.
Every year the exact CAT exam pattern changes. A mock test has been provided for CAT 2018.
CAT is a test based on a device that consists of 3 sections:
Understanding of Verbal and Reading (VARC)
Interpretation of data & Rational reasoning (DI & LR)
Quantitative Ability (QA)
There were 34 questions each in the Quantitative Skill and Verbal & Reading Comprehension parts, while there were 32 questions in the Data Analysis & Logical Reasoning portion.
Important Points of CAT Exam:
In November 2021, the CAT 2021 review will be held.
Important CAT 2021 registration dates will be announced in August 2021.
The CAT request form must be submitted online.
The CAT exam takes place in about 156 cities around the world.
By October 2021, students will be able to obtain admission cards from the official website.
The CAT examination results will be tentatively announced in the second week of January (2022).
Most importantly, for the selection process to be carried out smoothly, CAT aspirants should maintain a legitimate and exclusive email account and a mobile number.
ROI of top MBA Programmes:
153 firms participated in the placement process conducted at IIM-Ahmedabad in the year 2020.
The median salary was above Rs 30 Lakh per annum for executive MBAs.
The mean salary was over Rs 26 Lakh per annum for PGP/MBA graduates.
Top MNCs recruited from IIM Ahmedabad include Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, McKinsey & Co., Blackstone Group, and Strategy.
There were 518 offers from top multinational companies at IIM Bangalore and there was an increase of 6.14 percent in the total number of jobs offered compared to the previous year.
The mean salary earned by IIM Lucknow MBA graduates was Rs 24.25 Lakh per annum and Rs 23 Lakh was the median salary.
The average salary of MBA graduates was Rs 28 Lakh at IIM Kolkata and the median salary was Rs 25.5 Lakh. A staggering Rs 54.5 Lakh per annum was received by the top 10% of MBA graduates at IIM Kolkata.
